I dont quiet know which ones to run and to be honest I havent even started looking for them as I was going to wait and see the responses I got on the issue. I would like to here from you guys regarding the good and the bad about: 1. Cost & Performance against the Dyna Coils or other brands. 2. Any known problems 3. Which model would I need? Does that come with wires? 4. Where to get em? (prefer smaller shops as I dont care about feeding the corporate monster) 5. Other Suggestions? I want to build a reliable bike for the boy to ride so I want to do this right the first time. thanks everybody.... Big Joe

Member Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	rommy sells the coils and EI for about the best prices around..... everyone has said the coils are a great inprovement......not sure about the wires. there have been some quality issues with the DynaS in the last year or so......there's been at least 3 people here that have had one die on them.........others here have had the same unit for 20+ years. chopperfiend is the most recent with a dead DynaS......I'm sure he'll chime in!

I'll explain a little ... The original points setup can work just fine for all of us .. It does require some mainteenance and doesn't offer the output of the EIs .. When I build a bike for someone .. I generally stick to the points setup to begin with because its usually a price issue with many to change over .. For my own bikes .. they will always have EI....EI is solid state and requires no maintanence and is a performance upgrade.. Theres really only one major alternative to the DynaS for our 750s .. The Boyer Bransden Micro unit (5th item down)..Which costs about $45 more than the DynaS and is produced in the UK .. They aren't that plentiful around these parts and it would maybe be an adventure to seek any warranty issues ... There are a few smaller companies that offer EIs I understand .. but that could be interesting as well.. As for the Dynas being problematic .. Fiends is the 4th confirmed one thats actually had issues of failure, within out community for many, many years . We've heard distant rumors of others .. but I can't remember anything solid.. Considering the amount that are sold .. just by myself .. those are very good odds ... There are no part componants that are exempt from failure .. and any componant failure will leave you stranded by the side of the road .. I really have no vested interest in Dyna or their products . Its just that they are one of the few ignitions available for our 750s.. On the whole, they offer a good dependable part.. at a very good price ... If you want EI .. I recommend the DynaS for $130.. Dyna Coils for $130.. and Dyna wires for $20 .. $280 for the set .. Why mix brands ..?? Build it the way you want it ..... then learn how to ride it like you own it.. www.lowridersbysummers.com

Are you running a 1pc reg/rec? Mine got flaky, and the chop would run, but if I hit the brakes, making the brake light come on, it would stop running. It sucks when you are about 2 miles from your house and you cant use your brakes. It is my understanding that if you have points, you can go alot farther before your battery dies. In a closed society where everybody's guilty, the only crime is getting caught. In a world of thieves, the only final sin is stupidity.

Member Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	ToeCutter - Sometimes brake light related running issues are caused by a bad tail light ground. I don't know exactly why, and it doesn't really make sense, but it does happen. When I wire a bike I _always_ use a ground wire for the tail light, and the headlight, and run them to the battery ground. And yeah, a points bike will run way further with a marginal battery. I've run a kick only points bike on a battery with 2 empty cells. She didn't run great, but she ran. ----------------- "I'll have the New York omlette, please."

EI came with the motor, bought the coils on ebay got accel wires from the store...runs like a beast. I had some electrical problems, but that was due to the combo reg/rec being bad, changed it and all is well for now.

I was thinking about running a bigger battery because the small ones are unreliable and die if you leave them sit for 4 minutes not running. I just dont like the weight, anyone have a battery that is small and light and dont die constantly? Nick nick's ride
