So a dear friend of mine and a beloved HCMF, 1Kinicky1, donated one of my first chopper parts to me back a few months ago. It's a 16" harley rear
wheel. Due to the beefy nature of the rear end of my frame (last years WHCM raffle score) it requires a fatter tire than I feel comfortable with. It's
set up for a 200 tire, but I'm thinking that's a little much for me and have gotten pricing on a 16" 180/60 tire.
The rim on the wheel Kinicky donated to me is 4" wide. My first question is, will I be able to squeeze a 16" 180/60 on the rim? If so will it
"look bad" or maybe even cause other non-asethtic problems like quick tread/tire wear..etc?
If I cannot fit it on a 4" rim, what width do I need to be looking for on a 16" wheel?
I am anxious to start putting this beast together and have it rolling by next years WHCM but I have to get a rear wheel going before I can really start
figuring out what to do for a front end, etc. Any input or advice is appreciated. 71CHOP and I have hashed this over a few times and while we came up with
ideas, figured it was best to get a few more folks opinion, advice and *cough* expertise on the matter.

Here's a 180 on a 6" rim..I've seen a 180 on a 4" rim and it was'nt purty..or safe.. |

We were pretty sure the 180 wouldn't work on the 4" rim. Kinda figured it would bulge out quite a bit and be an issue.
I like the look of your rear end there Alan.
I think that the 180 will look okay in my frame. It'll still be a wee bit roomy but I can deal with that. So apparently I need to look for a 16" X 6" rim. Wonder where I can find the whole kit and kaboodle... rim, hub and all that jazz. Since I'm a rookie and don't know the proper terms or how to identify anything other than the basics wheel, tire, sprocket, spokes...etc.... could you fill me in on exactly what you've got on that sweet little ride of your's Alan, speaking of the rear end set up that is? Oh and skin I'll definitly post pics when I start getting some sort of progress made. Damn I'm anxious to get this started!

Damn, Alan....everytime I look at that bike I like it more and more!
Angi, I see complete HD wheels on ebay all the time in 5.5 width. Is the frame set up for rear disk or using the stock Honda drum? 200 is not THAT bad. I am sure there are many ideas/opinions out there regarding this issue. Good luck!

Angi..that's a 78 rear hub that was laced up by LRT. Send him a later model hub and he'll fix you up..

Yes spacing, go to cyclexchanges site and ken has a whole explanation of diff. years and rear gear since it is a honda. P.S. excell does a 16x5.5 alloy rim ,
it ain't cheap but it's light

You need the later model cush drive so the chain will clear the tire. that's what i meant...damn Kentucky Deluxe....
