any way to make the throttle work easier? |

OK so damn I must be a wimp. I realize I am working 4 carbs with 1 linkage... but is there any way to ease what it takes to twist the wick a bit? I can see
where long rides are going to be a pitw (pain in the wrist). Cables are already lubed real good, the only thing I can think to do is to put a weaker return
spring down on the carb but then it may not be strong enough to work all 4 carbs? Not using a return cable, and don't really want to. this is a set of
carbs for a '73. I got one of those plastic things you rest your palm on to work the throttle, it helps a lot but always slides around and I gotta keep
adjusting it.

I dont have any direct advice for that, but if your throttle cable/s is/are kinked, or forced to move around a tight radius, it can cause them to bind a bit
and make the throttle harder to turn. Just thought Id throw it out there.
A side question fer yuns if I may. Has anybody ever messed with the radius of the throttle at the carb to make it more sensitive? So you dont have to roll 3/4 around the bar to get to WOT? I prefer a touchier throttle. ~Grimace |

I do the throttle rocker thing but other than that,,, make sure the cable is free, maybe oil it up a bit and make sure one of the slides aint jamming. I had one that was tweaked a bit and made it harder than hell to move.

I had the same problem, new cables, I lubed everything nothing made it better.
I when to lowe's with my stock return spring as a reference. I found a spring with the same outside dia. but smaller size wire.It was a little longer but with a little trail and error I got it cut to fit and work nicely. David. |

If you're using the stock throttle assembly, theres a little throttle lock on the bottom of them,
its a screw with a knurled head, and a spring for tension. I'm not sure if all models had them, but alot did. Its kind of a pain in the ass to use, you have to reach across with your left hand to tighten it while holding the throttle with your right hand. But it does work. Definately great on long rides, you can remove your right hand from the bars and rest your whole arm.

I run lighter return springs like Daob, but on one bike I also run the push-pull and a much lighter return spring. Too light and the sliders take too long to
return to idle.
It was Honda first, all through the middle, and if I have my way, till the end as well.
Most people say what they'll do. Very few actually do what they say. |

May want to check the throttle assembly its self..if for some reason, its slide to far onto the handle bar/s, it`ll cause undo drag, and make it harder to
oporate..
and/or, if the throttle asembly is dry, where the cable goes into it and hooks on, it could act up also.. if your gonna grease up the end of the handle bar, and the moving parts inside the throttle, use a light wieght lithium grease, no thick heavy stuff, thats gonna get stiff when its cold out.. basicaly, if your cables are A ok, check over the throttle real good.. and..the carbs linkage/rod..be sure its moving freely.. should`nt be very hard to oporate the throttle, I go on long rides all the time, and my wrist is fine..rode 252 miles last saterday, no problems.. when in doubt..knock`um out...H.C.C.M.F LOCAL 6978 Flint Michigan..3rd most dangerous city in the USA..come back and visit us..sorry we "missed" you the first time..LOL |
