Ok, updates first. Engine is a 76 K. Carbs on it were F model. I switched out the carbs with a set of K model I had here in the garage. It is so much
easier to work with K model carbs as the F model have that stupid cable operated choke and a bass-ackward throttle system. Popped the bowls and they look
surprisingly clean. I DID NOT clean the carbs yet. Just put them on. Checked the plugs and had spark on 1 & 4. No spark on 2 & 3. Checked the
points. No spark on the front point. Adjusted so I have spark on both sets of points. Now have spark at all 4 plugs.
Before I couldn't get it to turn over. Was a ground wire issue. Thanks to everyone who pointed that out. Now I can get it to turn over no problem. Even put a better battery on it to help the issue. But it won't catch. Almost caught twice with the F model carbs but they were so hard to work I switched to the K model. With the K model carbs it almost caught three times (once by button, twice by kicker). I'm thinking a fuel delivery problem. Basically I have spark but no bang. No bang tells me no fuel in the cylinder. In the suck/bang/blow process I'm missing either the suck or the bang. Just don't know which. I tried pulling the pod filters off and spraying starter fluid in the intake of the carbs and choking (and even un-choking) the bike. Nothing.
Suggestions? (other than cleaning the carbs cuz that's a pain and I don't wanna do it right now!!)
