Hey guys,
I did a top end rebuilt last year due to a bolt of some sort getting jammed between a valve and the head. I figured i'd do the whole top end when I fixed this but when I had the jugs cleaned we discovered a bad home-job weld in the cylinder that basically made them useless. I couldn't source a 73 donor motor for parts so I used the jugs from a 78 motor. I did ask the question back then but maybe someone has new info- can I use the jugs from a 78 on my 73? The reason i'm asking is that i can see some oil in the tappet hole when it's running but not the amount i've read about. It's not shooting out of the hole but there's some oil there. If the oil ports are different can i drill out the 78 to allow more oil in? How much needs to be running through this area? I did run it this way for a few months last year with no problems but i want to make sure i'm not cooking the motor.
