so, i have been working at fixing my motor. i have a 78k, as far as i know. that's what i ordered the valves for. 5 valves to replace thanks to the timing chain busting. i got new ones. lapped them all then cleaned the head and valves with brake cleaner. when i go to assemble the head i discover a big problem. when i put the new valves in, the stem barely sticks up past the keepers. in fact, it's pretty much in line with that top 'washer'. my original valves? their stems stick up past the keepers around an eighth to three sixteenths of an inch and the springs are ccompressed more than with the new ones. i checked and the valve and stem are the same length on the originals and the new ones. the difference is in the wider part, at the top of the stem, that the keepers rest against. one my original valves, this part is longer than on the new valves. what's going on, here? thanks.
