Stumbled onto this site by accident and didn't realize there was so many people like me.
My story?
I bought my first 750 from a guy who had a sign "$300. Sort of runs." I only had $250. I put in a $20 used coil and fell in love immediately.
4 years later, I am hanging out with a friend at a swap meet. I told him I wanted to chop my 750. He told me to wait a couple of weeks.
Shortly thereafter, he called me and a guy across town had a basket case and a divorce proceeding... For $500, I could have both. I gave him the cash, told him he could keep his divorce.
After building the basket as far as I could go, I realized I was missing some parts. I kept an eye on the paper for a parts bike. The ad said,"Honda 750 plus parts. Make offer" He had one bike that didn't run and 3 pickup truck loads of parts including complete engines, frames, tanks, pipes, tubes, carbs and some really nice mag wheels. $500 later, I didn't have a back yard...I had a gold mine.
Finished my bike after some trips to the Harley shop for custom cables, and the hardware store to for my American to Metric brake line assembly.
Sold all the parts left over to a motorcycle salvage, sold 2 more running bikes and broke even.
Since then, I have put on a set of $20 pan head tanks that needed tank cream and nice Corbin seat that I paid $5 for because the seat pan was bent.
Is it pretty? No... I have 2 trophies for rat bike for this ride.
Pictures as soon as I can.
