Sources for exhaust |

Looking for some sources for complete exhaust system. Got a "77" CB750F and would like to put on a set of 4 into 2 Turn out exhaust system. Did a
couple of searches and have come up with very little. When you do a search on the web for 77/78, CB750F you only get the 4 into 2 systems. I'm trying to
do a build like Houndog750's "Bagger" and have not had any luck. I know you have to be aware of what type of mounting you have (Flange or
Spigot). and the "F" has the flange. Will any of the "K" 4 into 2 headers work with the "F"? Any help sure would be appreciated.

There are pretty much no options out there for new, chrome, over the counter exhaust.. except for the 4/1s . Some still make them for the SOHCs..
MAC does over a few 4/2 options and at times they have drag pipes...... but they are seldom in stock .. with waits from 6 months to a year at times.. All SOHC 750s can use the same pipes... yiou just have to get the proper mounts at the exhaust port..

Lowridertommy, I went to MAC's web site. Looks like they have a good selection of systems. My build is slow so the wait time or out of stock thing is all
right I can wait. Just trying to find out what year of "K" models have the same type of exhaust port mounts. I'm not very knowledgeable on this.
Can you school me in which year or model will work with the 77/78 "F" ? They list 750K 69-76 and 750K77-78. Not sure which has the same type of
mounts as the F (flange with shims and coller).

As far the connection at the head... the 76-78 F models are the same as well as the 77-78 K models and the Autos..
With rear support yo may have use a little ingenuity with strapps or brackets.. The 77-78 F models have the rear pegs mounted at a different location with those aluminum brackets that mount at the rear of the frame .. all other models have mounts on the frame or use the rear footpegs.. They're just not in the exact same place as the Fs .. But.. if for some reason you come across a set of pipes from a 69-76 K model... (which are the most common) . you can simply swap out the studs from your head and install a set of spigots..

That raises a good question that I was thinking about. So you are saying that the mounting studs on the F can be removed and if I found a set of spigot mounts
that they would bolt on without any problems, converting the F to a spigot mount system? As for the rear mounting point, that's a hole other headache that
I'll tackle down the road. Thanks for reminding me!!!! I got a good deal on two bikes and jumped on them before I realized how hard parts would be to find
for them. Got a 77 and a 78 CB750F. Trying to figure out what to do with them. Seeing that knowone makes a weld on hardtail and I don't have the skill to
fab anything myself. I've been kicking around just making two bikes like Houndog750 made (the "bagger"). The 77 was 90% complete stock and the 78
was a mess. So I tore into the 78. Got it in a million peices. Totally took everything apart before I realized parts would be very hard to find and the parts
that I have found are very expensive (bearings, rings, etc.)

Yup.. you can make a late model motor .. F or K.. into a spigot motor..
The hardest part can be .. getting those studs out.. Just be careful .. after years of those steel studs sitting in the aluminum head.. they tend to seize at times.. You might want to heat the studs a bit.. just be careful not to get the aluminum head too hot... or it will drip onto the floor ... Also .. when you do this .. be sure to replace the copper exhaust gaskets that go under the spigots... also...make sure you get the beveled screws with the spigots if you can.. or if not .. you can get new ones at a place like Fastenal .. If you don't use the beveled headed screws .. the head will stick up when installed and hold the pipe from going all the way on..

Depending on how nice you want the exhaust you can always make your own and wrap or paint them, or some places can coat them but I think that gets kinda
spendy.

dl O just happen to know if a complete new still in the box, 4-2 system. They are not turn outs, they are megaphone mufflers. Spigots screws and new chrome clamps from LRT.
Thanks, David.

No Tommy, another situation, Remember I sold the bike he wanted a new system. But then I bought the bike back but I like the old cross over system.
This sounds as if it has happened before, huh? I haven't even unpacked them.
Thanks, David.

dabo43, Thanks for the offer. But I got my heart set on Turn Outs. I like the idea that Tommy had at converting to spigots and I seen on his web sit that he
has them. I'm just a little hesitant in removing the studs. Like he said they've been in there for some time and that's all I need is to break one
off. I would cry like a baby. These "F" models are just too hard to find replacement parts for!!!!

dabo43, I just looked at your profile and see you are from Murray, KY. I grew up in Paris, TN and worked for a couple of years in Murray. Still have lots of relatives in both places!!! |
