Eight years ago, I had sold my GoldWing. And I was looking to buy a smaller Bike. I liked the looks of the small HD Sporster, but I couldn't afford one. So my Son said "look on EBay". I saw a real POS, stock 72 Frame, with Drag Pipes, K/Q seat, VStacks, and a 8' Front End, no Front Fender or Front Brake. Thing was such a POS that NOBODY even Bid on it! The guys asking price was $500. SO..., I got in touch with him, asked if it could be driven the almost 500 Miles to my house. I was in Toledo Ohio, he was in Triangle VA. He said sure. In fact he'd have it running when I got there. (even though I rented a trailer to go get it) SO..., 500 Miles and $500 later, all I've had to do to it in 8 yrs was replace a burnt wire, patch a hole in the case when the Chain snapped at 70 mph, and change the Oil and Plugs. Clean the Carbs once too. And ride the living Hell out of it. Rode over 400 Miles in one day just hanging out with 73Coupe. Over 600 Miles on a week-end to Buffalo NY and back. Bottom line, in 10 words or less, is "If you want it, get it". You can always go with either the Salvage Title, or try for a Lost Title. Salvage Title, once you get it running good, take it in, have it Inspected. Or even a Builders Title. A bunch of us will send you "Bill of Sale" for all kinds of parts. Take the whole list with you when you have it Inspected. There are enough CA Hedz to help you with anything you need. OR, check out local Swap Meets/CraigsList/EBay for a Frame. Then a Engine. And put one together THAT way if you want. If money is tight right now, and time ain't a big deal to you, that might be a way to go too. Like Java said, "IF" you have the extra money, you can always part it out to get your money back if you change your mind after you get it. In fact, one of our guys in your area might even give you the $500 you pay for it. Might even try Posting a Get-Together at your place, and having a few guys come by and tell you what they think, and give you a hand. Most that would cost you is some Beer and a few Burgers! (PS - I happen to know Java, and he knows what he's talking about!)
