My wife and I got back last week from a trip from here (Oregon) to and thru the black hills and back, about 3000 miles. I rode non-sohc (sorry) and my wife
rode her VS800. Interesting mix of motorcycling out there. 100's of bikes - most were HD glides and roadkings. And, most HD's were towing camping
trailers. Through the mountains in Idaho is our favorite part of the ride. 215 miles of winding road next to the clear water river - we take that route just
for that ride. I enjoy the ride so much we rarely go over 50 mph. We were passed by a couple of BMW riders who were doing at least 90 mph, normally that would
kind of piss me off but these guys rode like poetry - watching them go through the canyon was a thing of beauty. Contrast that to the knee draggers on the way
back who weaved thru traffic at well over 100 mph in bumper to bumper traffic, cut people off, caused most cars to slam on their brakes and annoyed and caused
danger to anyone they came near including us. In the Black hills we encountered the trailer queens, the 50k bikes that were trailered in from all over the
country and all their riders ride with their feet down.
One time I asked a BMW rider in Montana how many miles they put on in a day. He said that he normally didn't keep track of that and added - "Yesterday I was in OHIO."
Back on earth now, trying to finish the chop(s) and trying to talk the wife into washing the bikes.
Gotta love it.
