I use 1000 grit sand paper, then drag a crisp dollar bill through them after sanding..Work the sand paper in a circular motion..

I've never had good luck with points files, always used emery paper, treated points like any
other metal surface, choose a grit to start with and work my way up to about 1000 for final finish. Finish up with a good cleaning with brake cleaner, and a wipe with typing paper ( or a crisp dollar bill). "Substantial danger" means the person, by his or her behavior, due to mental illness: (a) is at serious risk to: (i) commit suicide, (ii) inflict serious bodily injury on himself or herself; or (iii) because of his or her actions or inaction, suffer serious bodily injury because he or she is incapable of providing the basic necessities of life, such as food, clothing, and shelter; (b) is at serious risk to cause or attempt to cause serious bodily injury; or (c) has inflicted or attempted to inflict serious bodily injury on another. |

Ive used emery and sand paper before, but it gets grit from the paper on the point cam shaft. I figured the file would eliminate that and be easier to get them
squared off.

Just to add...keep in mind also, the thinner the whatever you use to sand/file them, the better..
this is one of the reasons I preffer sand paper...even when folded in half...its fairly thin...
