carb question |

I have a problem with my carbs. The gas is pouring out of the tubes at the bottom of the bowls as soon as I turn the gas on at the tank. The bowls are filling
with gas. I read some post about cleaning the carbs and I did this twice with no luck. Is there anything else I should do now it wont even start the gas just
pours right out of the carbs. These carbs did sit for a long time before I got the engine once I wired the bike it did start and run but now it will not. These
carbs are from 1973.

If your floats are not adjusted it can do that.

Is it all the carbs? Check what was posted above. But another possibility is that
the little brass tubes for the overflows inside the bowls crack sometimes. If that's the case you can fix them with a little JB weld. You don't want to use a lot, it'll change the volume of fuel in the float bowls if you do.

Have seen cracked or "fractured" overflow tubes here too...seem a rash of them here lately....maybe the age of the brass?

A BUNCH here too. Probably more that everyone is scraping the bottom of the barrel and using carbs that sat in the weather (freezing) until now than just the
age.
Some were cracked from moisture/water in the tube/bowl freezing, others the brass was eaten away by rotting gas. This spring alone I have given away 11 bowls for that very reason.
It was Honda first, all through the middle, and if I have my way, till the end as well. Someone's
gotta ride the "Plain Jane Cheapos".
I'd rather give someone a tool than a solution. Give them an answer and they'll always expect it. Teach them how to find the answers for themselves and they will spend a lifetime learning. |

never take out the float pins....the little brass "bars" with pleyers or a screwdriver. the brass is very soft. remove them with like a
toothpick. i marred mine up pretty good...so they interferreed with the floats job of shutting off the needles in the seats. thats what controls the flow of
gas into the carbs bowels. improper float level will cause that also.
