Chuck had asked me to do a little poking around about this cookie problem so many people have been having such trouble with. I've narrowed most of it down
to three domains.
Running an ad blocker or firewall of some kind should allow you to block the following domains (sites) and eliminate most if not all of these bullshit runaway cookies:
quantserve.com
google-analytics.com
googleadservices.com
These are ALL tracking services that either set cookies of their own or for other tracking services. Blocking these three domains eliminates 99% of the cookies we're seeing. If you are using a firewall or ad blocker already add the domains above to your blocked or disallowed list.
For FireFox users can get the NoScript addon and install it. You'll then be able to block the above sites and be rid of nearly all of the crookies. Another helpful addon is Adblock Plus. Seamonkey users can also install NoScript and Adblock Plus for their browsers.
IE users can click on Tools --> Internet Options --> Click on the Privacy Tab --> Click the "Sites" button --> Type in the sites listed above and then click the "Block" button (you'll have to type them in and "block" them one at a time). That should pretty much block the crookies in IE. You can also get to your internet settings in Control Panel and it will bring up the same dialog.
Maybe this can be pinned for a little while so everyone who has been having a problem with these cookies has a chance to kill the gremlins.
Sometimes these cutesy smilies also add code to set cookies and you can block those cookies in the same way. Just write down the site that wants to set the cookie and "poof", gone forever. It might however make some smilies disappear.
Now if there were only some way to kill that damn "chat fairy" my life's work will be complete.
If you run into other cookies that don't seem they should be part of YuKu after you've blocked the three above post the domains here.
Sorry guys, I don't have a Mac to test on, but if someone wants to buy me a new one I can get you my address.
