I recently ordered a gasket kit from Tommy (thanks for hanging on to it for me Tommy!)and I didn't realize at the time I ordered it that it came with head
gaskets and all sorts of other goodies.
So I decided that I will go ahead and replace this stuff while I am waiting on the funds to buy some of the tools and parts I need to get this thing roadworthy.
So I figure that while I am in there, I might as well do some other stuff. Porting a bit and maybe taking it out to have the heads decked. That kind of stuff. But I wanted to ask. What kinds of things should I make a priority and what is just a waste of time? I can't justify an 836 kit or anything. But what about chamfering oil ports, or cc'ing heads? What suggestions would you guys have? Any things I need to worry myself about?
This is a '70 motor, so anything that I want to look for that is model specific?
Edit: I will also be painting and buffing some parts of the motor while I have it apart. Do I need to use a high temp paint? Or does the motor stay cool enough to use regular rattle can?
