Those carbs didn't have adjustable needles IIRC. Mains size impacts from about 3/4 to wot, but to some small degree the upper range altogether. Needle (or in this case, float level) from off idle to about 3/4 throttle. You can tell when the taper begins to leave the needle jet nozzle by looking in the throat of the carbs as you raise the throttle.

The bike sounded good (no bad misses, even accel) in the mids as he was running it back and forth down the alley, so I suspect the float levels are close. Raising the floats 1mm to 13.5mm from lip would make the lows and mids a little richer since the needles are not adjustable.

Later style carbs are a little different due to the shape of the throat. More logarithmic, less linear.

I don't have adjustable needles in the bagger and it is running 14.5mm float level with 120 mains but I have added some backpressure with expansion chamber.

I run 120s in the chop with floats at 13.5mm and non adjustable needles and light backpressure. Runs a touch lean but it's not my long distance bike any more, just a sporty eater.

Larger mains in the later style carbs is not unheard of.

I'd rather give someone a tool than a solution. Give them an answer and they'll always expect it. Teach them how to find the answers for themselves and they will spend a lifetime learning.
As for my mental state?
