Start the bike, then with the engine running CAREFULLY disconnect the positive lead to the battery. If the engine dies then the charging system isn't working, or at least not working very well. The charging system will run the bike, just need the battery for starting. If the bike stays running after you unhook the battery then you probably have a dead short somewhere. Hook the battery back up then use an ohm meter to check for continuity to ground on each of the circuits (put the two ohmmeter leads together and the meter will read a direct connection - then put one lead on the neg. terminal on the battery and the other lead on each of the circuits one by one untill you get a reading similar to your first one. That circuit is grounded and you have found the shorted out circuit).
