A 12V battery when fully charged is between 13.2-13.8 volts.

Each of the 6 cells is 2.3 volts.
 So 6 cells x 2.3V= 13.2 V But they still call it a 12V battery.

I agree that 12.4 volts should be enough to test the circuits.

Use the ohms x 1000 scale when checking for continuity.
