Rtv or silicone are one of the most common mistakes with these motors. And quite possibly why 12 of the 14 motors we have don't have any cams in them. People constantly put valve covers on with silicone to keep leaks away. Yeah it might not leak. But it won't run long either. It'll burn the hole top end and only that if you're lucky.

Pull the covers you used rtv on clean all that stuff off. Get on ebay or the links that were put up. Hell even a cereal box cut up for temporary gaskets. And put here back together. And change you're oil and filter if you've run it with the rtv. And cross your fingers...........

I thought I seen where you have a trip planned soon... Once you get it running. Make a habit of pulling your number 1 and number 4 tappet covers while the bike is running and idleing. Look inside with a small flashlight and see if your cam is getting proper oil. After burning two cams in the past. I have large tappets that I can take on and off with my glove rather than a wrench. But I keep a small flashlight in my tool bag and one on my keyring just for that purpose.
