As that link shows ....Whitworth is a system the British used for threads and thread pitches.. not dimensional.. That would mean the dimensional sizing where the bearings sit would probably be standard USdimensions .. therefore being able to convert to the sporty sizes..
But I thought the Brits had given up that silliness back in the 60s.. Is your 78 definatelyWhitworth..??
