I used
Forward Air
when I moved to California... They have designated small metal shipping containers set-up just for shipping motorcycles (for conventions, bike shows, etc) - doors open at both ends, 4 point tie down hooks in the floor, and built in entry/exit ramps... roll in, roll out, easy... except, If you have 'apes', you'll have to loosen them and rotate 'em down to fit in the container... and the larger containers they have are more long (and slightly taller) than they are wide... so with a side car, you'll probably have to separate and stagger the 'halves' to make it fit...
**They only ship to and from their warehouse hubs located near airport locations... So you have to transport and load your bike up at their warehouse, and then pick it up at their warehouse location at the other end... The container itself never leaves their property... You supply the locks (for the container doors) and the tie downs... I moved from ATL, GA to LA, CA... So the major airport hub locations made it easy for me...
AND... you're not supposed to, (although, no one at the dock really gives a rats ass...) - but I also crammed all the rest of my living stuffs in the containers along with the bikes - rates will vary by container size, shipping distance, and current gas prices... I shipped three bikes in two containers (also not supposed to put two bikes in one container, but I did.) and all of my stuffs in there with 'em... and then just took a one way flight with the basic stuffs to pass the 3 to 4 days 'till the containers arrived at the other end... Had a buddy with a truck at the other end to do the retrieval...
Can't remember the exact cost I payed per container... So you'll have to check with the
Forward Air
online calculator, current rates will be different anyways -- But, I believe (ATL to LA, rates from 2 years ago) - the SMALL container was around $550 (one bike and a lot of shit)... and the LARGE container was around $750 (with two bikes staggered and all the rest of my shit)
I like my Women like I like my coffee... Cheap, Hot, and served to me by another Woman.
