(light bulb burning bright) IDEA why not use the 35 mm chromoly tubing.....and instead of using the "slug" idea for the axle part...why not just get another set of tubes...or a solid tube to fit INSIDE the outer tubes..further increasing strength under severe shock loads and maybe eliminating the shearing effect of the slugs/spacers in the axle part???? that way it would still be pretty flexible and really decrease the danger factor...maybe put a little oil in between them, so they dont bind on one another.
Maybe... you're talking about a separate solid inside the entire length of outer tubing with an oil 'buffer'... but that's going to be one heavy-as-fuck front end...

I know solid rounds twist under torque easier than tubing - something about having a center point - that's why automobile drive shafts are hollow (that and the weight issue) BUT a solid inside a tube separated by oil might be a solution... still gonna be a lot of extra weight for the front tire and spokes to deal with...

But then with a solid front end... additional stress on the spokes is just going to be part of the package deal...
