I don't think have ever had a bike with an accurate speedometer. The tend to be about 10% off. Some are even worse than that on older bikes. Most of them are actually magnetic units, meaning the cable doesn't directly drive the needle. They tend to wear out and read slower over years of use. I have also seen them ruined by taking them off and storing them face down. Not sure how that works, but I have a GL1000 with evidence of it.

While we are on the subject, any ideas on how to hook up a speedometer on a chop with a spool?
