My daily rider is just fixed with alittle fiber glass resin with a cap of jb....It's been running like that since the 70's. No problems. If any chunks went inside though. You should get them cleaned out, so the gears don't pick them up and throw them through the case or worse. We have dreamsycle's old motor in the shop and that's what happend to it. It was welded in the sprocket area. But whomever fixed it in the past didn't clean it out. And while riding she through a dime sized hole through the back of her case and lost all her oil.......At the very least I'd recommend pulling the oil pan and pump and reaching inside with your fingers and feeling around to see if there's any debris hiding.
