I would be happy to send you carboard cutouts and then maybe you will only catch a cold or sumtin'.
BlowinSmoke dislikes the bolt setup because it is a nut and bolt deal and I guess that if you do have some trouble on the side of the road, it could be troublesome. He had a post recently on his idea to make it better - I was fortunate and never had to take it apart.
Also, Gopher___ sent me a SS side plate years ago because he says that in his experience, guys tend to lose them on the road. In any case, the tabs on the bottom of the oil tank dictate what you can do with the box. But I suppose that you could flair/step it out and make the innards larger.
I also suppose that you could change the single flat side plate to a bent piece, same as the other side to give you 4 sides. Also, guys are running different electrics as opposed to the early days and those brackets might not work for them. IF I was making them, I would consider SS as an option and no chroming so that guys can weld in their brackets or at extra cost weld in the brackets for what they got and then chrome at their expence - I DUNNO. Also, IMHO is looks so much better than A Finch or Santee box.
I know what would be a cool thing to try - a little chromed box that Carlini made up for Black Bart. It fit on the right side upper motor mount area. I doubt that it had a bottom. It contained a starter switch with cover and a cigarette lighter. I am wondering if that lighter would be able to charge a cell phone battery or at least let you run the charger and talk on a dead phone for 911 type calls.
Here is a link where you can barely make the little box out -if you pry your eyes long enuf off of that outrageous chickadee, you can see a key and the liter is towards the front - the box was as long as the top of the motor mount. You can also make out the electric box with wide open rear.
