STOCKTON, Calif. -- Stockton has the dubious honor of having the highest gasoline prices in the country, a survey shows. The Lundberg Survey
found the city's residents are paying an average of $4.41 per gallon for regular unleaded. The American Automobile Association found Stockton pays an
average of $4.47 per gallon. Lundberg, which surveyed 7,000 gas stations nationwide, found that California pays $4.38 per gallon on average, while the nation
pays $4 per gallon on average. The news is especially bad for Stockton, which also topped a recent list for the highest number of home foreclosures among the
nation's largest cities. Many drivers said they do not understand why the Central Valley city is paying such high prices for fuel. Driver Verna Lerch said
it cost her about $80 to fill up her pickup truck. At this rate, she joked she may look for another way to get around. "We may be on bikes," she said
with a laugh. A state Board of Equalization official explained that prices often vary widely from place to place in the same city based on where a gas station
gets fuel. Environmental protection regulations and global oil market can also have an impact. In Stockton, an Arco station was selling regular unleaded for
$4.39 per gallon early Monday, while a 76 station across the street offered the same grade of fuel for $4.59 per gallon. Still, the price is relatively low
compared to Europe. Residents of Great Britain are paying $8.56 per gallon, while the price per gallon in France sits at about $8.

Paid $3.89 this morning. If we don't get off our asses and drill our own oil and build more refineries; we're fucked! It'll only get worse. Met a
guy last week at lunch (retired engineer) that worked for Exxon. He claims that the refineries can't keep up to demand and the workers are getting time and
a half because they're all working like 60 hours a week! Guess what guys? We're ultimately paying for that! Corporations don't pay for squat, they
just pass on expenses. If the government were to try and hit the oil companies with a "windfall profit tax, we, the people, will end up paying it.
Why is it that an oil painting of boobies is art and a photograph of boobies is porn?

I heard some speculating on the news that we will be referring to these days of $4 a gallon as the good ole days by next year. When it's $10 a gallon.

Thats exactly why I have been riding since before easter. I have been paying 4.08 here for premium, I ride 20 miles one way to work, I work 4-10s generally, it
costs me about $15-$16 a work week to get to and from work. If I had to drive my suburban, I think I would be crying when I fill up the 42 gallon tank every
other week.

I drive a company service van an E-350 loaded with tool racks, parts, ladder rack and ladders. I use a company card to put gas in...and the max at one time is
$75 at the pump. That gives me roughly less than 1/2 a tank which means I do that every other day. We have never charged a separate trip charge like most
companies do......but now we are forced too. Sucks for the customer, sucks for us.....SUCKs all the way around. WTF is going on? We need a revolution!

I remember back in the mid 70s I used to race sleds on the weekends in the winter. I used to haul an enclosed trailer with a Coupe de Ville back then that
would only act normal with leaded premium.
Needless to say .. mileage sucked.. Most of roundy round tracks up here were in little rural towns .. and with the gas crunch we were having then .. Most gas stations were closed on weekends .. At the time I was a painter at a Vette and Boat shop so I had privvy to the long skinny gas tanks from the Vettes. I use to bungy one in the trunk of the Caddy .. just in case ..lolol.. I could've blown some of those little towns off the map if I had gotten rear ended hard enuff..lolol... (young, dumb, and full of............) So I'd top them off before I left to a total of about 50 gallons and that cost $35 OR $40 ...!!! I remember the news articles and the disussions that gas would reach $1 by the end of the year ...!!! MY GOD .. that would be the end of the world .. $1 a gallon for gas !!! .. It came close but never did hit $1 at that time..and leveled at about 55c or 60c a gallon for while .. but it did gradually rise all of the time.. People were really wound up about that though ... Then I remember as a kid growing up in the mid 50s in Fargo, North Dakota.. My Mom and Dad would talk about these gas wars that stations would have.. some were 25c a gallon and some would cut to 21c a gallon.. Then in like 62 or so .. when I first started driving .. we would all scrounge up like $1 or $2 so we could cruise in Mom and Pops "Rocket 88"... lolol.. I worked at a body shop as a helper then so I had access to the equipment to be able to put a cut-out on the 88s single exhaust pipe just ahead of the muffler ... (I can't believe he never found that ...lolol..) So we'd get the $2 together .. roll that Red 88 out.... drive down a block or so .. pop the hubcaps off and put a set of Olds Fiesta spinners on .. get underneath to open the cutout and we were cruising ...llololol .. lotsa fun and lotsa memories for $2 .... That would probably cost a kid $20 -$30 today ...lolol..

It is around $3.90 right now for 85 octane. Glad I work from home nowadays.
But as it was said earlier, other places got it a lot worse. Always have too. When we were bitching about gas being around 2 bucks a gallon, the Europeans were paying 6 or more. It really isn't just a matter of us making more. It is also a matter of the world demanding less. We are competing with more of the world for what oil exists. And it won't get better. This isn't a fluffy, let's hold hands and live on bean sprouts and wear sandals bit, it is just a fact. That we won't get lower prices, and that the only way it will hurt less, is to use less. Of course that is easier said than done. |

thats all right.
as dumb sheeple, we aren't going to do shit about it. Even the bitching we do is, well.. gas is $4.00 a gallon. we bitch cry and complain. so they raise the price to $4.85/gallon. we 'raise hell' some more. they drop it to $4.45/gallon. YAY!! they dropped the price of gas! We're so happy! even though its .45 higher than what it was three months ago when we were'nt happy.
Don't mind me.
I'm just stating the obvious. |

and the bastards won't let us punch holes to get at our own oil.
on a news broadcast this morning, a dude said it costs the saudi's about 2 bucks a barrel** to pump it out of the ground. now i know it costs to transport it (but most of ours comes from the americas, not the mid-east), but we're gettin' the high, hard one. ** remember, thier infrastructure was paid for LONG ago.... by us. we taiught the c-suckers how to drill, or they'd be on camels, not mercedes. well we have to transport it to get here, and with the price of oil being so high it cost more to transport. So of course gas is expensive, and with gas
getting more expensive it cost more to transport. so the price of gas goes up. so it cost more to transport, so the price of gas goes up.so it cost more to
