Howdy all. My 50th birthday was 6 MONTHS AGO. Crikey, I got my bike licence when I was 17, in
Brisbane 33 years ago. I started my riding "career" on a Yamaha 500 8 valve twin, after a short time with an old BSA bantum. The Yammy was fairly
done over with chrome and paint and was eventually traded for a 750/4 K2. It came with paint and as it turned out, a Yoshimura 900 kit. Ah, those where the
days.
The Honda got smashed, as did my mate who happened to ride it right under a car at an intersection in Brisbane. The K2 ended up at the wrecking yard, the mate ended up setting off alarms at airports for the rest of his life.
It was replaced by a second hand Kawasaki Z1B, with an original Rex Windsor (local lad ) paint job. I bought it from Morgan and Wacker in South Brisbane somewhere, the salesman was Wally Pushky. Legend. He raced a V8 powered drag bike at the Gold Coast dragstrip. Geez, the memories are flooding in here.
In those days, it seemed the thing to do was leave school, buy a bike and as was the tradition in our neighborhood anyway, join the local bike gang. Well, some things last and some things dont.
30 odd years on, a lot of those lads are still riding. True, some are gone, some are missing in action and others drifted away, but the seeds where sown and for this Ol Fart, I have never been far from the saddle, never wanted to keep a bike stock for very long and have thousands of hours riding and thousands of dollars spent, to brag about.
Finding this site was like running into old friends, and I probably will make old friends here as time goes on.
My current project is a 78' 750/4 hardtail. I found it on ebay. The frame was built 30 years ago by a local legend Jim Brownley of Sonic Choppers.
When I get around to figuring out how this site works, I will post some pics. I have stripped it right down and got piles of stuff to re chrome, a supply of new bits building up and a list of state-side suppliers that dont seem to answer their emails too quick.
My current bike is a 2006 HD Street Glide. Very nice touring machine, all the bells and whistles and of course, already off the road so I can add some stuff to it, take some stuff away and change some other stuff so it will never be the same again. Its winter here now, lots of shed time.
So to all the old riders, and now that I think about it, all those sweet gals that once spent time on the dangerous side, thanks for having me and I look forward to being a member of this illustrious site
