carb fitment problems |

i ve got this ridgid frame and the angle that the backbone sits at wont let me cram a rack of the early style carbs on the motor.... so can someone whos
running the later year carbs give me some measurements . from top side of crank case to the very top of one of the outer carbs from the rear of the valve cover
to the backside of the carbs ( where you mount stacks, pods, bread box or alphabets) also any other clearances i might need to check. if i cant cram the later
style carbs i guess ill be in the market for a log intake and a posa

69-70 carbs alow for more space cuz the linkage is lower and simpler. Springs are inside carbs. Maybe?

this is just a shot in the dark, i have never tried it, but could you cut down the intake boots to make them all shorter (prob be best to do it on the side
that goes onto the head, because of the angles of the ones that the carbs actually slide into) ?

Can you post a pic of the situation?
The later carbs take up about the same amount of space front to back even though they are a little longer as they use shorter boots. The linkage is enclosed so take up no more room vertically when the linkage is moved. Bear in mind they are more expensive to rebuild and take a little more tweaking than the earlier carbs. They take different throttle cables and boots. Pods take a little modification to dodge the choke linkage. Cutting the boots on either end would change the spacing. I suspect you won't be that happy with a POSA system. Great for balls to the wall, but everyday riding they can get pretty cranky.
It was Honda first, all through the middle, and if I have my way, till the end as well.
Most people say what they'll do. Very few actually do what they say. |

if i can figure out how to do the pics ill post a couple. the back bone is notched to clear the carbs. but the early year carbs with the throttle slide fork
doesnt clear so......im assuming that the frame was notched for the later year carbs. im aware of the probs with the posas and dont really want to run one. and
the 69-70 carbs are pretty rare. the cyclextwin carbs are too expensive. well hell they all are!!! if someone could take some measurements in the mean time ill
try to do these pics.

keep in mind that the carbs from a 1977-1978 cb750 are bigger throats so the boots wont work from earlier motors , the earlier models 69-76 have a smaller
throat size at both the head and the carb sides . as for cutting the boots down , dont do it ! they are built with a groove inside them that snaps into the
notch on the carbs , if you cut it out the carbs wont stay sealed .

You can also upload pics through your profile if that is easier.
