Posts: 26 (05/10/08 7:28 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	So I got to looking at the old wiring harness and began to wonder how I got it to start in the first place. So many connections were barely making a connection it wasn't even funny. Then one of the spark plug boots was being held together by faith alone cuz as soon as I touched it, it fell to pieces. I got a wiring harness diagram from boogieman (thanks boogieman) My question is where to buy all the stuff from and what does some of it do? What does a regulator rectifier combo do? The round thing in the diagram labeled IGN/BAT/S what is that and what does it do? I see some of this stuff in the stuff I ripped out and am confident I can put this back together with a little help. Yeah I know I sound like a complete idiot and shouldn't be doing this at all but how am I gonna learn if I don't do it sometime. Where do I buy all the stuff from and what are a good set of coils gonna go for and what brand should I use( a much heated debate shall ensue I'm sure). Any help is much appreciated and please help Lonergan

Best place to find the coils you need is here on the board. Just list what you're looking for in the NEEDED/WANTED section. As for another wiring harness, try here but you'll probably end up having to visit Ebay.

They convert the AC voltage coming off the alternator into usable DC voltage and regulate the voltage to around 12 volts regardless of the RPMs/input voltage. New complete stock harnesses can be purchased from a few specialty bike shops on the interwebs, but not cheap. most here use the simplfied wiring diagrams or a modification there of and wire themselves from scratch. Solder joints are superior to other connection types. a lot of the electrical parts can be eliminated if you start eliminating crap like starters and signals. who needs a neutral switch anyway. IMHO Dyna aftermarket coils. but pretty much anything is gunna be better than the stock unrepairable units. God damn you all, I was right H. G. Wells

Otherwise it's as Herchamier says, wiring from scratch. It was Honda first, all through the middle, and if I have my way, till the end as well. Most people say what they'll do. Very few actually do what they say.

I am not gonna do a stock job. I just need the stuff that is going to make turn signals a head light a tail light a starter button and probably a few other things I have forgotten work. I borrowed boogiemans diagram and I need some suggestions on where to buy the stuff and how much is a good price. I think except for coils this should be a really inexpensive project. Which Coils should I get? LRT has a few of these things dyna coils, a rectifier/regulator combo or is there some place less expensive or a brand better. I know I should try and support the group first but I am working on a nonexistent budget.

You might post in Wanted/Needed for the coils. That might save some money right there. Although not as elegant, sticking with the stock reg/rec will save somewhere around $80 or a little more. Old Man Honda has a nice flash wiring diagram that sections can be removed to simplify things. It was Honda first, all through the middle, and if I have my way, till the end as well. Most people say what they'll do. Very few actually do what they say.

Now I'm gonna have to tear her down and bob her out now versus l8r. Oh well such is life hopefully I can get this done relatively soon. Sooner meaning I have money to do this and money is something I don't have. I have a teenage daughter, a 9 year old daughter who thinks she is a teenager. oh and a wife who thinks she married someone who makes more money than I do. She can save us money by buying things on sale even though I told her do not spend any money we are out. She hears blah blah bla spend money you are a godess. Why have I been cursed with her. My friends all say it's cheaper to keep them and do what you want. Anyway that was way off off topic but hey I started this one. Where do I get the other stuff like the relays and the ignition switch? I used the digram boogieman drew up it seems to be the one I can understand the most. What do you guys think of the starters that cycle x has for sale? They start like a car would and pretty inexpensive plus they look good. Thanks for the help Lonergan
