1981 Honda CM400T camshaft sprocket problem?
I have just rebuilt the motor and when putting it back together, I put on the new gasket, cylinders, and head. Then i slid the camshaft chain onto the
camshaft and put the chain around the sprocket. I lined up all the timing marks, and am unable to get the sprocket lifted up enough to bolt it to the
camshaft. I only need to get it another 1/8" to line up the bolts, but it just won't go. Is something misaligned or what am I doing wrong? I just
need to get the sprocket up on the shoulder of the camshaft but I can't lift it at all.
I have tightened the chain tensioner as tight as it will go (virtually no tension on the camshaft chain) and I still cannot get the sprocket onto the shoulder of the camshaft. What else can I do? I am about 2-3mm shy of getting it up there and there is absolutely no extra slack in the chain, i am thinking the new head gasket I put on is the reason I can't get this, is there any other way??? I thought about putting in the head bolts to tighten the cylinder down (effectively squeezing the gasket to get the last little bit I need), but that doesn't seem like a good idea to me? Help! Thanks!
