all good choices for differing reasons. HD, if ya pick up a used one, ya can get most of your money back when selling it.
the other 3 are all good, just personal preference as to style i guess. a friend of mine had a suzi 800 marauder, great bike, he'd still have it if it wasn't for financial hard ship. if you ain't a big dude, the suzuki 650 savage is a f'n hoot. single cylinder, torquey as hell. my OL has one, i like to blast around town on it (tho i prolly look like the proverbial monkey/football combo) & ya can pick one up for under $2K. i also like the Kaw indian clone 800 Drifter.... but you'd be hard pressed to get one for $4K. but wich would i choose from your list? any one, if i found the right deal. but i lean toward honda. aftermarket support, brand loyalty, etc. (i have owned HD, & currently have one each, suzuki, yamaha, & kaw, so i ain't a brand snob... but i do have a dozen hondas) If you're starting to look wrinkled, don't worry. It covers the scars.

I'd just get the most cc's I could for the $. I rode a Kaw. 1500 for 2-3 years.....it was so reliable it was almost boring (not!). Still-nice used
Kaw. 1500's can be had for $4K and under.

I'd hafta say get the VTX as well,,, them other bikes are OK but the 1300 is a great bike and good deals can be had. I have 60K on mine and never had a
lick of trouble. Even made some of my own parts for it. But if you need a choice off the list I'd pick the 750. Theres alot of aftermarket parts for
chopping em up so when your done using it as a commuter you can chop it up.

I dunno. Depends on what you want. If you want the most bang for the buck. I would probably look at the 800 or 900.
If you are into brand loyalty I would go Honda. And if you are shooting at resale, I would go with H-D. Otherwise I would buy something from the 80's for about 800 bucks and tear the hell outta it. And you will have perfect material for cutting up later. And as far as twins go, I am kinda partial to Yamahas. Except for that damn starter thing in the older Virago's, they never left me stranded. |

shadow 750, because i already have one. then i'd have an extra $4k to spend on my chop, right?

I bought the Suzuki Intruder Volusia 800 new in '04. Now it has 44,000 miles on the clock. I busted the back fender(which is plastic) because I stood it
completely up at 12 o'clock. In fact, all the Harley guys would tell me to pop it up whenever they saw me. Sold it last week for $2000 (out of work).

Depends what you want to do with it. My wife rides an Intruder 800 and it has no problems whatsoever. The shadow is a decent bike as is the Vulcan 900. If you
like drive shafts and radiators. I personally would get the Sportster necause with a few $$ you could get a 1200 kit , an aftermarket frame and you'd have
a killer custom or a chopper.
My $.02 BTW - I have a '96 shadow VT1100C I'd sell for a bit less than $4k. |
