front brake caliper |

I have 2 front brake calipers one off of a 1976 and one from a 1978 both cb750k. They are both hung up i can not get the pistons to come out when i bleed the
brakes. What do i do how do i free it up so it will work right. They are not leaking so i do not think i need a rebuild kit and if i got one i would still
have trouble getting the piston out. Let me know what yall think thanks.

I just rebuilt 2 front and a rear and had the same problem. Dont know if its correct but here is what I did.

I take the caliper and put it loosely in a vice with a piece of cardboard between the piston and vice jaw, shoot some air into to pop it loose and then open
the vice up some and shoot some more air into it. That's how I've done it since I launched one across the shop one day.

i used a grease gun and this little adapter i made from a metric hex bolt and a standard zerk. no flying parts, just a lot of grease to clean up.
i had to make the adapter because i couldn't find a zerk with the correct metric threads. n

Hey there how does this little peace work? did you drill a hole threw the bolt and pump in full of grease? My piston is below the lip of the caliper so i
cannot get a pipe wrench on it. Let me know thanks do you think this will work

it's just a metric hex bolt (threads match the caliper) with about 1/8" to 1/4" hole drilled the full length and the head tapped for a standard
grease zerk. all parts from the bins at ace. if you have a grease gun, you do exactly as you surmised; pump grease into the caliper until the piston moves.
i'll try to take some better pics tonight when i get home from work. maybe that will help. n

Just about every "new" bike I've gotten has a locked up front brake. I just take the two bolts out and pump the lever untill the piston comes out. A stuborn one I had I took a c-clamp and pushed it in a bit just to free it up before it would pump out. Then I clean the caliper, put it back together, and bleed it and they mostly work ok. |

Hey everyone just to update everyone. For the last couple of posts about pumping the master cylinder and it should come out that doe snot happen i got the air
out of the line to where i can not even pull the lever in ANY so it is froze pad. I did finally get it out today i was not even thinking about pumping fluid
in there but i work at a race care shop and we certified all of nascars hoses. So i brought my caliper to work bought a brake fitting from work with a line
and pumped it full of a couple hundred pounds of oil and it came out pretty easy but i thank everyone for all the help.

it sounds like you got it all figured out, but since i took these photos last night, and there may be people who don't have access to a race car shop,
i'll post this anyway.
since my caliper wasn't hooked up to a bike and had no master cylinder connected, i made this adapter out of a M10x1.25 hex bolt. i drilled all the way through with an 1/8" bit, and drilled and tapped for a standard 1/4"-28 grease zerk fitting (if you have access to an M10x1.25 zerk fitting, you can skip making an adapter all together). i capped off the bleeder access hole and inserted the adapter in the brake line hole (taking care not to damage the conical flare fitting inside). pump away with a grease gun and your piston will come free. clean up and you're done. n

btw kids - I just whipped up a power bleeder that u can pop on the top of your oem round master cylinder. I'll post pics later today
