anyone got a cover for an ARD magneto to sell?
If you're starting to look wrinkled, don't worry. It covers the scars.

I'm guessing you bought the one from carpy without a cover? Thing is, it seems there's small differences from one to another. I have a 3D cad model
of a cover that you could take to a machinist to have one made but I'm not 100% sure it'll fit yours. Also, it'd be a little generic looking as it
would not have the ARD diamond shaped logo. If you're interested I'll send it to you along with a 1:1 scale mylar that you could overlay to your
housing to see if it's close.
I'm thinking you should expect to pay at least $200 - $250 to get one CNC'd. If your pulleys don't stick above the housing, you could go cheap by bandsawing a flat cover and tranfering the holes. An in between option would be to have a flat cover CNC'd |

Jerry - just curious - is it the bolt holes or is it something other than that? I've got a few of these and I never noticed that.

I have one thats probably more than you

"is it the bolt holes or is it something other than that?"
Well, one reason I asked if it was the incomplete one carpy had is because I bought the one he had advertised as parts. It actually is all there but some of the pieces are beat to crap. I'm thinking I can rehab it pretty easily some day. Anyhow, the cover doesn't fit the house quite right. It might actually be the missing cover (or it could be the fact that it looks like it was once removed with a pry bar and hammer). The outline doesn't really match the outline of the housing I got. Not off bad but just doesn't match up all that well. The cover on the other ARD I have (have had lying around for years) matches the housing nicely. As a matter of fact, it almost looks custom fitted. I'm thinking the cover on the one I just got is maybe from maybe a different vintage. Also, I've seen different mags on different housings. Some have slotted tabs with a mag that is timing adjustable at the mag mount. Like the one I'm guessing BD bought. And still yet, here's another with what looks like a custom made cover. Also remember seeing one with a CDI ignition recently. It may be that they're all in fact interchangeable but my gut feeling is that if he bought one, chances are good that it's not going to bolt right up without at least a little tweaking. That's all. |

"but as Jerry said you could cut one out with a band saw and counter sink the allen bolts"
Yea, as long as you take your time marking and cutting, filing, sanding, and polishing, you could end up with a really nicely fitting cover as Tom's picture illustrates. Then get it ball milled, engraved, etched, engine turned, or whatever custom look peels your bannana. Hey, be the first guy on the block with a finned ARD!!!!!!!!! (where's a head bangin' butthead emoticon when ya need it?) |

You could take it down to a plastic shop and have them do a see-thru cover in smoked or colored plexaglas and watch the gears rotate. Never seen that done
before. Different???

that ARD with the custom made cover has holes milled inside to clear the pulleys. To be wrecked all to shit it sure threw a good blue spark though!

and it is an early one by the looks of it... it has the fairbanks-morse tag on it... (old farm tractor mag manufacturer i believe) jerry, are you interested in selling your cover? and tommy, if nothing else turns up... i might be calling ya. If you're starting to look wrinkled, don't worry. It covers the scars.
