Jerry, I agree with you 100%. There is a certain feeling from building it yourself that cannot be measured or purchased. I know that feeling from cars and bikes. I do, on the other hand have a dilema. I am trying to create some parts of a bike I am not capable of producing currently. Maybe in the future, but not right now. SO, I must farm out some of the job. Does this still mean "I built mine"? Can I still wear the shirt without being a poser? Or should I not ride any bike I did not build, unless it be stock? Where do we draw the line between real and poser? Given respect or none?
I have an answer. Everyone must find there own way to build their own. Some are indeed very capable. Some need help. It's attitude and I don't mean having a bad ass one. I admire those with the skills to scratch build. There are many here as I have witnessed. I am standing with my hat off to you gentlemen, and Jerry you might be one, I don't know. I will continue to learn and build my skills. It will continue to show in my work. I will welcome advice and help those in need. There is no difference in this from the work I am skilled and paid to do. Try doing for a hobby what I do for a living and see how hard it is to perform at my level. Many of my friends cook at home, never able to create as I do, but it does not make them less. They too have passion and love of the art. Its Attitude. And so maybe the guy that paid so much just to have a really cool bike had no place or skill to make it?
Or maybe he's just a fool with money?
