Posts: 7528 (04/21/08 3:52 PM) Senior Member Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	this is about trailering and trailer tires...not off-topic b/c it involves me trailering all my chop stuff... basically, i've got cheapo cooper car tires on my trailer - the trailer's full and they're pretty compressed/squished....see the pics here ...the tires look better/straighter in the pics than in person... any thoughts on if this'll make a 400 mile drive? i've loaded down my trailer before, but apparently never this badly... and while i'm at it...what's the difference between trailer tires and car tires? these car tires have a max psi of 35psi - trailer tires are between 40 and 50 - so they'd probably still compress? thoughts/opinions? thanx!! Other than the fact that they break down everytime you want to haul one somewhere. But you're more than welcome to lighten your load by shipping several arm loads of your chopper stuff to my house. I promise to give it all a good home and put it to good use:P

They are designed to carry weight (stronger side walls)hense the higher psi, but cannot handle torgue and the likes that a car tire is designed for. Car tires are not designed for the heavy weight but more for handling.I strongly advise you have that load checked at your local scales and go from there. A trailer blowout is a nasty thing. Also make sure your tow vehicle is able to handle that load. You don't want to kill yourself or someone else if something goes wrong. And by NO means exceed the max cold PSI rating on the tires you use because that load is gona run them HOT.

Separation is no fun. You can try putting more stuff towards the front of the trailer so that more of the weight is sitting on the back of your vehicle. Heavier things toward the front. Although Im sure you dont feel like repacking.

Heat will kill a tire from too much load or speed. Stop after 20-50 miles and check em out for heat. you can compare to the tow vehicle tires.
