20w-50 from a decent brand. I usually run Valvoline or similar. DON'T get any oil that says it's for "high mileage engines" or "lower
energy usage" or "diesel". Any of the additives in those oils could mess up your clutch. Just buy a decent brand of normal old dino oil in
20w-50.

I have been running Castrol GTX 10w40 because it is still in the 20s in the morning when I leave for work, but when it warms up 20w50. Like JLeather said, and
look out for energy conserving on the bottle also. Most oils that I have seen as long as its 10w40 and heavier its not energy conserving.

I think the book recommends about 2,000 miles. Have you run the bike? Or has it been sitting? If it has sat for awhile, depends I guess, if it has been years I
would change it right away, run it for 50-100 miles and change again, and then the 2,000 miles or so.

Hey so I had the same question but was wondering about the synthetic brands. Are they forbidden too?

I am not 100 percent on the synthetic whether to run it or not. Some do some don't, I do know if you have a small oil leak anywhere, with syn. you will
have a bigger one. It seems to make oil leaks worse.

No sense running synthetic in these bikes. The only advantage of synthetic is better heat-dissipation. IMO you can't really run any longer between changes
on Syn than on regular Dino oil. Change it regularly (once or twice a year depending on how much you ride) and use a good filter and these motors'll last
100k. Even if you only put 1000 miles on your chop (which means you ain't ridin much) change it every spring cause over the winter it gets condensation in
it. I usually change mine in the spring before I start riding for the year, and again mid-season around June/July.

i hate oil discussions as they always turn into a heated debate, but i'll throw my hat in anyway, then take my toys and go home. i used rottella t and
honestly, i didn't like it. i know alot of guys here run it, but the shit stinks(and i do mean the smell) also it made my chop alot harder to find neutral,
so i switched to valvoline for mc's that i can get at the local parts store. for me it works alot better an smells like oil. the only reason that the smell
bothers me, is because i had an oil leak at the same time i was using the stuff, and it was all over my shoes, so it followed me around.
