What pisses me off about the "Taxpayer Liability" argument is that they never talk about how Motorcyclists are more likely to have medical insurance
per capita than the public at large. That means a higher percentage of us on 2 wheels have medical insurance than the fuckin' cage drivers that cut us off!

other studies have been done on fatal injuries from motorcycle accidents
in states where there are helmet laws and states with out helmet laws its 50/50 on if they were wearing a helmet or not at high speeds a helemt wont do much but keep you brains inside as your body is ripped apart how DOT tests a helmet take to a height of 6 feet and drop if it doesnt crack its approved rather shitty testing they tell you to replace your helmet if you drop it as it may be damaged WTF if it has to be replaced from a 3 foot drop, tells me it wont do worth a shit if you're in a wreck alot of my family rides some wear helmets others dont one uncle a few years ago while not wearing a helmet was rear ended he and his bike flipped over 5 times shatterd his left hip and knee his head was uninjured not even a scratch from witness accounts of the accident the top of his head barley missed the road while the bike was flipping if he had a helmet on his neck would have been broken due to the impact on the helmet if you take a close look at statistics by rearanging the wording you can make a case for or against helmet laws helmet laws are not about saving lives its about the money the tickets cops write will bring in same with speed limits Ohio is a prime example 65mph for cars 55 for semis Federal goverment has asked Ohio to raise speedlimits for truck in order to ease congestion on the road and will even give more money for road upkeep if they do Ohio will not do it because the money from speeding tickets is more than the money they would get for road upkeep somewhere somehow a politician has their gready hand out and this is why dumb ass laws get passed "in the intrest of public safety"

1st it was padded dash boards ( some of my early cars had "cookis cutter dashes),
then seat belts, then shoulder harness, then impact bumpers, then air bags, now side air bags, & that's just cars.... they ain't even really started
on us yet.
so... they wanna look out for your safety, don't want ya to be a burden on society.... hmmmm... maybe that's why most the saftey nazis are pro abortion. just gettin' rid of another burden on society. so..... maybe we can tie this in with a deal like the greenie's carbon credits. just go to planned parenthood & buy us a helmet credit. kill a baby or 3, then ya can risk all ya want, 'cause ya paid for your "offset". i bet if ya proposed it to some of the liberal cock-suckers, they'd go for it. ok,ok,ok..... i just get PISSED about his fuckin' shit. enough... i'll go have a cigar & a shot & calm down now.

Ok, I will weigh in on this subject too. If you don't like the laws being passed in Legislature, give voice to your opinion in a way that matters.
I am a member of ABATE of Iowa. http://www.abateiowa.org/ ABATE stands for "A Brotherhood Aimed Towards Education". ABATE is a neutral organization that allows ALL riders to unite in brotherhood to safeguard our rights and still remain individuals with differing views. Here is another link that will give you websites and info about MC Rights in other states too: http://www.abateiowa.org/links.html A lot of people think ABATE is just another HD beer drinking group. It's not. Although the predominant brand of bike is HD (or it's equivalent EVO's) I see all sorts of bike types and biker types at the "social functions". I don't drink (although I used to - like a fish) or smoke (although I used to - wildweed style) but I do ride! I'd really like to see MORE Honda Chopper Hedz though. I am one of ABATE's Share The Road (STR) Presenters. Our mission statement is: To provide motorcycle awareness training to all drivers and soon to be drivers on the road in Iowa. This training is intended to reduce accidents between drivers and motorcyclist by seeing, respecting, and understanding a motorcyclist needs and rights on the highway. Making Sure Motorcyclists Are Seen And Heard As a presenter, I go into Driver's Ed classes and teach about AWARENESS. I tell them I am there to save lives, namely mine and my motorcycling bretheren. I use examples from real life, driving home the message of how important it is to be fully engaged in driving, not chatting, eating, etc. I put them through participation exercises where they imagine themselves in their car, picking up friends and running around town doing fun stuff. Their eyes are closed while I lead them through this scenario. Somewhere along the way, as they begin to engage in the "guided visualization" I make a LOUD sound and scare the crap out of them! Then once they start breathing again, I calmly tell them they forgot to look as they were pulling out of the parking lot and ran me over. That is just one of the examples I use. I don't get into the helmet debate. I explain how all of the gear we wear is for protection (helmet, chaps, jackets, gloves, eye protection etc) from a variety of things. I also tell them it is their choice (Iowa is still a "choice" state). I tell them if they want to wear flip flops, tank tops and cargo shorts, it is their choice; albeit a rather STUPID one. I point out the inconsistency of they guy wearing his full faced helmet while wearing beach attire. If we can educate these young drivers before they develop bad habits (usually too late since many have been driving on a learner's permit with Mommy and Daddy for 2 years) we stand a better chance at living longer. Incidentally, in all of my accidents, I was never wearing a helmet. I was fortunate to have survived a head bounce off the asphalt as a teen. (Well at least no VISIBLE effects....) My last one, with Mr. Deer, I took a 4 inch scar to the forehead and a nasty concussion. I had JUST taken the helmet off as it was getting dark and my "night goggles" (Desert Storm issue) were too big to wear effectively with a helmet. It didn't save me from the dislocated hip, fractured pelvis or the broken bones in both hands..... I guess the Legislature better mandate FULL BODY IMPACT ARMOR with built in Personal Air Bag Deployment Systems... Hey that actually sound like a cool idea if it were VOLUNTARY and not MANDATORY. Nuff said, Peace out, Scribe

It's like any other thing in government. I'm willing to bet that the helmet manufacturers are lobbying for 'our safety' and greasing the palms
of our elected officials.
