Wisconsin-Michigan Ferry Cuts Some Rates 40 Percent
POSTED: Friday, July 3, 2009
UPDATED: 11:27 pm EDT July 3, 2009
MILWAUKEE -- A company that ferries riders across Lake Michigan is cutting some prices by 40 percent for the next two
months. Lake Express makes two daily roundtrips between Milwaukee and Muskegon, Mich. It usually charges $91 each way. But for roundtrip patrons who take the 6
a.m. cruise from Milwaukee or the 11 p.m. cruise from Muskegon, Mich., one of the two legs will cost only $19. The deal runs through all of July and August.
The promotion can be combined with another Lake Express deal in which kids under 18 ride for free when accompanied by a parent or guardian. That deal also runs
until Aug. 31 Lake Express can accommodate 250 passengers and 46 vehicles. Each trip takes about 2 and a half hours.

I haven't looked at their site but from the news article it sounds like one leg of the trip is $19 the other would be full price. Someone should call them.

O.K. So according to their website there is a per person charge AND a per vehicle charge? WTF? I could see charging for additonal person in a car or vehicle,
but its a ferry for taking vehicle across, what they just send cars across with noone with them.. I'm gonna have to call and see what the deal is.

Ok so I just got off the phone and YEP the bike will be $120 and I''ll be $110 thats with all the surcharges and such. So a total of $230 and I'd
have to leave Muskegen Sat night at 11pm to get the deal and so I could make it home for work on mon. @6am
So Nope!! Damn it!! I was looking forward to a shorter ride. Oh well... It's around the pond I go tra-laa-la-laa...... lol

I'm going to call the SS Badger tomorrow. They leave from Manitowoc and dock in Ludington. I'm thinking about their 12:30am out of Manitowoc on Wed
night and returning on the 7:55pm Sunday. According to the web site I should get a 10 or 20% discount [I didn't understand that part yet so I got to call
them]. It would be $217 before any discounts. I figured my bike will take $50 to $60 in gas round trip so once I deduct that from what the ferry costs the
ferry seems to make the most sense. I saw the Chicago road construction first hand a few weeks ago and I'm not ready to try that again any time soon. Hard
tails and that shit don't go together!! The Badgers a slower boat [4 hours instead of 2 1/2] than the Lake Express but then I'm a bit slow myself.
I'm thinking I have to spend a bit more than if I ride, but going through Chicago again I may end up dead, and that would make my week-end totally suck.

Hey MCGuy,where's the construction? I come in from rockford an take 294S to I-80 whenever I go down there. Last time I went thru in 04' I-80 was all
tore up east and west but I-294 was ok.

All the 294 toll road is tore up. My bike was airborne more than it was on the ground. I road smoother moto-x tracks. The only smooth spots are the 1/4 mile
before and after they take your money for the joy of riding on that shit. If you're going that way I suggest you consider going all the way around Chicago
or leave the bike and take a tank.
