rat are we even talking about a stock regulator, NO. we are talking about modern solid state regulators.
no I have not taken apart the old honda type, and screwed with it while the bike is running. I have never had the need to. But I do know that it functions in a very different way than the modern regulator/rectifier units
the stock is designed to ground the field coil if the voltage output goes too high. It is basically just a relay with a pot for setting the trip point. it is not regulating in the same since as the modern units
