starts up but idles rough. 1+2 pipes get way to hot to touch within10 seconds. i can keep my hand on the 3+4 pipes 5 mins after start up and its just nice
and warm. got gas coming to the carbs, even re-routed my fuel lines to make sure that wasn't the problem. pilot jets out 1 1/8 on each carb. thinking it
may be a weak spark on those two wires. plug on #4 is damp with gas. thanks for any help in advance.

check the bowls to be sure 3 and 4 are getting fuel, take a plug out, put it in the wire boot, hold the electrode to the block/head or whatever is grounded and
close, and crank the engine with ign. on...check the spark on all 4 plugs, and check gas to all four carbs, check the fuel lines where they "T" into
the carbs, be sure they are clear and flow fuel wher is needed and you have spark at each plug.

Timing off on 2-3 cylinders I had 1-4 to advance had to retard them then readjust the whole plate
life is but a single grain of sand in the hour glass of time

if you have a starter, check an extra plug in each boot. if spark looks halfway decent, re-check your timing then valve clearances. one another bike i had some
crazy shit happening and it was just a valve out of adjustment.
other possibilities, but unlikely if 4 has a lot of gas on the plug. is the bike sitting level? -could be a slow petcock and the lower carbs are getting more gas did you try bench synching the carbs? -could be out of adjustment with 1+2 open more and getting more fuel (or 3+4 too much) if you rev it up a bit and hold it there for a while, do 3+4 heat up nice and good? -could be clogged idle passages in the carbs |

If you are getting spark to 3 & 4, then what R7 said check your floats and float needles. I had one that would fill up with gas and then the needle would get stuck closed so no more gas was getting in even though the float would drop down. Let it run for a few minutes and then see if there is gas in the bowls of 3 & 4. I ended up replacing the float needle and that solved the cold pipe problem. |
