Ozark, Arkansas is home, for now. I've plans to move back to Tennessee at some point in the future, but it's going to be a while.
Never been one to leave anything stock, this goes for anything I've driven/built since I was 15 years old (35 now, 36 in July). My experience has been mostly with old cars ranging from a 1926 Ford TT truck to a 1993 Toyota minitruck, with some 38-40 other four-wheeled rides in between that were largely 50's models. I still own a 1956 Pontiac Chieftain that I'll own til my dying day, and parts of Model Ts left over from previous builds. Bikes are something I've messed with along the way, but not as often as the cars/trucks, because I had this fear of the unknown that was lurking just inside those cases...had I known how simple things really were before I tore into my first CB750, I'd have taken the plunge LONG ago. Previous bikes (probably not worth mentioning here, but they're bikes...and were fun) were a '72 Suzuki TS 50, '73 GS550, '78 Kawasaki KZ400 (still have that one...), and some ugly red moped I bought for $35 just to see how fast I could make it go before it blew....I'm embarrassed that I don't remember the make, puch or something like it I think, LoL...
I work as a counter guy at a nationally known parts store (not in the zone...don't worry), the college degrees could probably be put to better use, but I'm not one to handle a LOT of stress...so the police work can just go to someone else that doesn't mind gettin' shot at, the psychiatrist positions can be filled by folks who WANT to be depressed from hearing other people's troubles...I'll pay my bills working at a place filled with things that bring me happiness...engine parts
One of the CB engines I am building apparently had water in the #4 cylinder not long after a rebuild, and someone tried to start it...yep, bent rod, wasted piston and cylinder. I don't guess they tried to tear it down to find the trouble...just that it was locked up and wouldn't budge...it made it's way from Missouri to Arkansas, spent a LONG time on it's side (the oil tank had a hole rusted in it the size of Shaq's fist), the oil that was in the passages in the crank had solidified, but...one cylinder sleeve, a rod, piston, bearings, and set of rings is all the MAJOR parts it needs to run again...although I think I'd be better off finding a set of jugs elsewhere. Heck...$20 wasn't that bad for what I got. I'm buying a '73 from a friend, has carb troubles, and it's priced right, and I'm looking at a '69 engine that needs a set of carbs.
At least one of these engines is going to make it's way into an AMEN Savior frame, if I can find one within a couple hundred miles of me. I've read online/heard from old-timers the differing opinions on these frames, seeing as how I'm not into canyon carving, and most curves I encounter will be at less-than-breakneck speed, I think I can stand the quirks, if not, I'll make solid axle mounts to take place of the springs and be done with it.
The stuff I do not related to bikes/cars still can cross over at times, Photography, Music, and I paint/draw things for people on occasion. Most of the things I collect have no connection to bikes, unless someone wanted to make a weird sci-fi western where the horses at the OK Corral were replaced with motorcycles, and the industries of the world remained to be powered by steam for another couple hundred years. No, my music isn't steampunk...it's country, but there's a bit of darkness that finds it's way in once in a while.
Now I've got all my off topic stuff out of the way, I promise not to bore y'all with them again.
I can go back to learning about these bikes/engines I've grown to appreciate...anyone got a savior frame for cheap?
