Posts: 52 (04/27/08 11:02 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Hello to everyone, i just have a question about finishing off my chopper project (cb750 of course) and all that is left to do is finish putting together the back tire and chain. Now my question is how do i line up the back wheel and what type or what size of wheel spacer do i need and what can i use as an alternative?? any info would be greatly appreciated as the nice weather is here and i would love to get out and ride. Thanks again to everyone and hondachopper.com without the advice i would have given up a long time ago thanks again. Those afraid of pain will never know glory

Member Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	well, really you should line up your chain, then go from there........ once your chain is straight, that will give you the spacer dimensions for the wheel. also, consider moving the engine left or right to help you out.

Posts: 480 (04/28/08 5:09 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Your local custom bike shop should be able to help you out on getting the spacers, Drag Specialities, Custom Chrome and a few others sell the spacers premade in standard lengths along with shim washers, they also usually sell a 6" piece that you can cut to length. Also something to take in to consideration is if your running a disc brake, you have to make sure the caliper is spaced out properly from the wheel, get it spaced right then line up the chain straight and do some measuring. Posts: 281 (04/28/08 7:09 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	make sure the rear wheel is in the center of the frame tubes, if you have spacers already in the hub take a measurement of how long they are than take another measurement from the spacer to the axle plate add that number to the how long the spacer is and that number will be the size of the spacer you will need. repeat for the other side. than line up the wheel sprocket to the engine sprocket with a straight edge you may need to shim the rear sprocket or off set the eng. sprocket depending on what rear wheel you are running.hope this helps.

Posts: 166 (04/29/08 5:21 AM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	If I understand this correctly, the critical thing is to make sure the front and rear wheel contact patches align as close as possible. In some frames this is accomplished by centering both wheels (in the frame). However, I think this is risky, because some aftermarket frames may not be strictly symmetrical as expected. I picked up an inexpensive laser level at Lowe's and shot various angles to get my front and back wheels aligned. Once the back wheel was set, I measured the required spacers for the back wheel, and then I used the laser again to look at sprocket alignment. I used a 10mm offset sprocket from Cyclexchange (thing of beauty), and pushed the engine around in the mounts until the chain aligned. Then I measured the engine mount spacer requirements. This is the process I used after consulting with a local chopper shop. It made sense to me to start with aligning the contact patches. -Bubba No matter where you go.... If everything isn't square .. then you should be looking into your frame .. Everything should be square at this point.. The motor shouldn't be offset and the rear wheel should have equal distances between it and the frame rails... 2) Now the chain and sprockets...space or offset your sprockets to clear the rear tire and properly line up with each other ... If this doesn't work out .. and it probably won't, with anything larger than a 200 series tire.. You'll need to look into a jack shaft.. Build it the way you want it ..... then learn how to ride it like you own it.. www.lowridersbysummers.com

I measured the width of the washers, and had a buddy with access to a machine shop make spacers for either side of the wheel. www.homemadehonda.com

( the kind a carpenter would use to hang cabinets ) My old lady gave it to me to help her hang picture frames and shit. The only thing it has ever been used for was to line up the chop! Works very well by the way. Everyone needs believe in something. I believe I'll have another beer.
