he is using g-mail, which strips IP's and you have no way of knowing where he is located.
a. he is just lucky
b. he is smart and does this on purpose.

As for the "scam" in question it turns out he's legit. I was gonna be a dick and tell him to fuck off and stop pretending, etc, but I changed my mind and played along like I wanted it. He then sent me pics, the VIN number (which checked out for location, year, etc) and how he was gonna ship it.
